Beyond The War Memorials
Sefton War Memorials project – World War Two
To mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War Two the team at Sefton Library Service applied for a Heritage Lottery grant, to extend the Beyond the War Memorials project to include the fallen Service men and women of World War Two.
It is our wish to honour these men and women listed on the boroughs Civic War Memorials, and find the stories behind each name. Along with Service men and women, many civilians lost their lives during the war and we aim to list as many of them as we can find on this website.
In the coming months in the run up to the anniversary on 2nd September 2020, the library team will be working closely with a number of school children in Sefton to produce video diaries about World War Two. We are also looking for volunteers to help us! There are many ways you can help us, we need researchers to work on the names listed on the memorials, discover stories about them and find out how Sefton and it’s towns were affected by the war.
